Start on the Right Foot with Flyfit – the First Ankle Tracker for Fitness and More
Flyfit, the first Taiwanese startup ever featured on KickStarter, was founded by a husband-and-wife team Jimmy Leu and Beatrice Chu. The idea started when Beatrice, a fitness-enthusiast, demanded for a wearable fitness device that could track and monitor ALL her physical activities. As a good husband, Jimmy decided to think of a great solution.
He saw that the hundreds of wristbands in the market today – were able to detect movements of one’s arms, but when one is cycling, these wristbands give incorrect data since your arm isn’t moving and no movement can be recorded. After all the tests, he finally found the spot on the body that generates the strongest motion signal to cover most cardio activities – in the ankle. It’s also the best to place a band without being intrusive. “Ankle may be the best position to wear a tracker for a long period of time. Our leg can carry more weight and still feel comfortable.” said Jimmy Leu on an interview with Techview Asia.
Jimmy created the product in March 2013 where his wife is the first user and reviewer. He admitted it was really hard in the beginning. He said he is still thriving to make the product that is convenient to users. ”Users wear the band in their ankle and they can get their data easily without any installation.” Instead of installing a cadence meter in their bikes which is non-portable, Flyfit will work the magic when worn.
